Human Perception
Research
Research of Different Modalities of Movement in a Precise VR Environment
In this project, we detail our comparison study of different modalities of movement in a precise VR environment. We made up and conducted experiments on 8 volunteers to determine which of the modalities of movement between natural walk, the use of a controller and the use of CyberShoes is the more convenient for a VR simulation in a room-scale virtual environment, such as a virtual meeting room. We asked the participants to complete 2 tasks using every 3 modalities, and ask them to answer questionnaires throughout the experiment.
We found out that natural walk is the preferred modality for moving in a virtual environment for its naturalness of interaction and low intellectual demand. It can be physically demanding for long sessions, so CyberShoes are a possible alternative for longer simulations. Controllers can also be used but they easily cause motion sickness, so unless they are necessary for long distances, we would recommend not using them.

Impact of natural versus man-made waste on the perception of dirtiness and realism of a 3D virtual reality urban environment

Johnny Blower ----- Swallowed Super Leaf Blower Power Man Escape. Go to the Game Website
A physics-based 2D-platformer game developed in Unity2D where the main character Johnny Blower has been swallowed whole by a huge monster. The player assumes the role of leaf blower wielding Johnny and needs to use this single tool to blow enemies, acid, and projectiles around in order to overcome obstacles. Interact with the environment, slay enemies, and find clever ways to propel Johnny out of the stomach.

Light in the Dark ----- Asymmetrical Competitive Games based on VR and PC platforms Go to the Game Website
"Light in the Dark" is a competitive survival experience in which one player is trying to stay alive for as long as possible while the other player tries to kill them as fast as possible. The gameplay experience of the two players is highly asymmetrical, as the player trying to stay alive is looking and interacting with a scene through a virtual reality (VR) headset while the second player is directly influencing and placing enemies into that scene by using a monitor and mouse.
This project has been invited to exhibitions at Tekniska Museet on 1 Dec 2022 and ForskarFredag on 29 Sep 2022.
